Yezidis International’s Journey to Ancestral Land. . .Preserving the Heritage
Today trip was to Boza (AKA Bozan). It is one of the oldest Yezidi villages and at one point was being considered for becoming the Yezidis’ holiest site. As such, it is sometimes called “Small Lalish”. There is still so much more to experience and learn about.
Look through the pictures to learn more.
- Braids cut off and hang from one of the tombs at Boza cemetery.
Traditionally, Yezidi girls and women didn’t cut hair unless a loved one passed away.
“people would cut off their long braids and place them over the headstones of the loved one, as if to say the beauty in my life left with your departure.”
